Biblical understanding of Child Dedication *

Child dedication is a proclamation that based on our commitment to life for Christ we want to create a household that encourages our child to follow Christ.

We see this in:

Luke 2:22-23 "When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord."

Deuteronomy 6:5-9 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."

Ephesians 6:4 "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."

Do you understand the biblical foundation for child dedication?

We can't lead someone where we haven't gone ourselves. *

We can point them there, but we can’t lead them there.

With this being said, it’s important that the parents making this proclamation both 1) Understand the commitment and 2) Are committed themselves.

With that in mind, please tell us how you became a Christ follower and how you would describe your responsibility in regards to raising your children in a Christian home.
