About Celebrate Recovery

If you want freedom from life’s hurts, hang-ups, and habits we encourage you to check out Celebrate Recovery (CR)! We celebrate God’s healing and redemptive power in our lives through 8 Recovery Principles which come from the Beatitudes taught by Jesus Christ, the ultimate Healer.

We meet in the multi-purpose community room down the hallway to the left of the lobby at the SMCC Draper Campus. When you arrive you can expect a welcoming environment of transparency and grace. Our time begins with a pre-program meal (6:00pm), followed at 6:30 by worship music in a large group setting, followed by either a lesson or testimony of recovery, followed by men's and women's small group time to provide support, community and prayer.

CR Q & A

Q. Is Celebrate Recovery right for me?

A. Celebrate Recovery is for anyone seeking a Christ centered life. If you have a hurt, habit or hang-up, it's for you. Ask yourself these questions:

Is there a habit, substance or compulsion dominating my life?

Is there an addiction that has become destructive?

Am I being controlled by something that is blocking joy in my life?

Am I codependent on someone else's addictions or habits?

Is a past abuse stopping me from moving forward in my life?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then we urge you to attend a Celebrate Recovery meeting and you'll see it will be a safe place to start the healing process.

Q. What is a hurt, habit or hang-up?

A. HURT - The feeling/emotional reaction to another person's behavior or to a traumatic or disturbing situation (abuse, death, abandonment etc.).

HABIT - Addiction to someone or something, (food, drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, pornography).

HANG-UP - Negative mental attitudes that are used to cope with people and adversity (hate, anger, fear, resentment, unwillingness to forgive etc.).

Q. Doesn't "Recovery" mean I need to be recovering from drugs or alcohol?

A. No, Celebrate Recovery is for all types of problems, issues and addictions, which are still unhealed, unmet, or unresolved.

Q.  How will CR “FIX” me?

A.  Celebrate Recovery will not fix you and neither will any of the people you meet at Celebrate Recovery. The only way to be healed is through Jesus. CR will give you tools to help you let Jesus heal you.  The people you meet at CR will support you and share their experiences, their strength and their hope with you. The rest is up to you.

Q.  Is there an age limit to attend?

A. Celebrate Recovery is designed for adults 18 years or older.

Q.  Is Childcare provided?

A.  No, Childcare is no longer provided.

Q. What kind of problems, issues, and addictions are addressed by Celebrate Recovery?

A. Anger, hurt, self-esteem, alcohol/drug addiction, loss, abuse, codependency, gambling, hatred, unwillingness to forgive, sexual addiction, eating disorders, resentments....and many more not listed.

Q. Since AA is also a 12-Step Recovery Program, what makes Celebrate Recovery different?

A. Although similar to other 12-step programs, one difference is in the focus on Christianity. Celebrate Recovery stresses that there is no Higher Power except Jesus Christ, as opposed to groups like Alcoholic Anonymous which encourage their members to choose their own concept of a Higher Power...another difference is Celebrate Recovery does not require one to declare or qualify oneself as an alcoholic or addict. There are "NO" requirements for membership. You may attend with simply a desire to work the steps for healing regardless of your hurts, habits or hang-ups and compulsive behavior issues.  Also, worship is a big difference between CR and AA.

Q. Is Celebrate Recovery Confidential?

A. Yes, Celebrate Recovery guidelines maintain strict confidentiality to create a "safe place" where you can take off the "mask" and be real and honest without fear. Confidentiality and a non-judgmental environment are assured.

Q. Do I have to be a member of South Mountain Community Church (SMCC) to participate in the Celebrate Recovery Program?

A. No, Celebrate Recovery is a Ministry for anyone who is interested in a Christ-centered recovery, You need not attend or be a member of SMCC. You can even be a member of another church! This is a ministry that is open to the community.

Q. Do I need to register to attend?

A.  No, All you need to do is show up at 6:30 on a Tuesday night!

Q. Is there a cost or fee to attend a Celebrate Recovery meeting?

A. Celebrate Recovery is free ministry, Donations to cover the cost of expenses are always welcomed, but NOT required.

Q. What if I can't attend every week?

A. You are always welcome to come when you can, As with any endeavor, the more time and effort you put into Celebrate Recovery, the more benefit you will personally gain.
